What causes the black streaks on my roof?
The black growth covering roofs is a fungus. The fungus is unable
to get food from raw materials as other plants do, so it relies on
getting its food from dead organic matter such as leaves and grass.
The fungus grows rapidly when the roof becomes moist after a rain
or morning dew. The sun heats the roof and any trapped moisture
provides an excellent breeding ground for growth.
What harm will come from leaving the fungus alone?
For one thing, lighter colored roofs absorb less heat that reduces
utility bills and extends the life of asphalt shingles. A roof
covered with fungus will absorb more heat due to the black
pigmentation. In addition, the presence of a fungus-laden roof
could pose health problems for those with allergy conditions.
How does your cleaning method work?
We use a specially formulated cleansing agent that is applied in a
low-pressure manner. Based on the degree of stain, we adjust the
mixture of ingredients to provide a long lasting, effective
treatment. Our formula is environmentally safe and will not harm
plants or landscaping.
How long does the cleaning last?
Our experience shows that weather plays the most important role in
fungus growth. If we have several dry summers, the treatment may
last indefinitely. A typical cleaning will last three to five years
or more.
Are there any guarantees?
We will re-clean your roof should staining reappear after three
years on a pro-rated basis from the date the roof was cleaned.
How much does your service cost?
Several factors are considered: the degree of stain, the type of
stain, the condition of the roof, the pitch of the roof, and of
course, the square footage. Cleaning your roof is much less
expensive than replacing it – and having it cleaned can delay
replacement by a number of years.
How long does it take?
A typical ranch-style, one-story house can be effectively cleaned
in about five hours.
